Copper Red Mugs, set of 2
Copper Red Mugs, set of 2
These beauty’s are created by reducing the oxygen in the gas kiln at the beginning of the firing. Hard to create, but a delight to hold and use daily. Dish and wash safe. 3” x 4”, a solid pour.
In 2015 I was invited to attend The Ohio State University with the graduating senior class to reaffirm that I still had the chops to fire a reduction kiln 40 years after having last fired one. Reduction work is fired in a gas or wood fueled kiln; the air supply is damped which causes the fire to seek oxygen molecules from the clay body and glaze compositions. When the firing schedule (12 hours) is managed successfully, the resulting work displays the beauty that comes from the this oxygen starved atmosphere. Currently I work with around 8-10 glazes whose colors mix and match with other Rosehill Pottery selections. All work is dishwasher and microwave safe, and is free of lead.
